These two films have not been produced for the Helen Hamlyn Trust but are also dealing with themes of autism and aging and the theme of inclusive design. Touch*Play was a collaboration with an RCA designer and Communities of Care was commissioned by the Design Council.
TOUCH*PLAYRCA Designer Lingjing Yin approached me to help her documenting her research for TOUCH*PLAY, a device made for children and people with autism. We visited the wonderful child Sarah a few times and documented her interactions with the device and the feed back of the parents. The project was successful and also the film really helped the designer and won the Helen Hamlyn inclusive award and other prizes. This film is one of my most viewed shorter films on vimeo and a good example for research collaborative film work.

COMMUNITIES OF CAREI was commissioned by Vivienne Heyhoe (Service Designer and managing the project) to support a bid of the Design Council London creating a new programme ‚Communities of care‘ where people of age, service providers and social entrepreneurs collaborate. The project did not exist yet and the challenge was to follow the researchers Jo Blundell, Niall Morahan and Holly Mahoney meeting people in various communities in Manchester and Cornwall. I had great freedom by the team leader and the film was received well and together with the written research won the Big Lottery Fund bid and the project was realised in Manchester and Cornwall.

The film is in itself also a research on how films can be viewed. I developed the idea of editing the film for a dancing audience:
the takes are longer and the entire soundtrack and all interviews have continuing music. We have screened it in London and various places in Brasil. |
